light through the trees

Something about this simple winter scene caught my eye. I was in Logan Lake on assignment and I started driving a backroad to see what I could find.

looking for breakfast

I was looking through my lens just scoping the horizon after noticing the mist hanging over a marshy area adjacent to an elementary school.
This coyote caught my eye and I banged off three quick frames before he was in the thick cover of bush.

Captain my Captain

Retired fire captain Barry Foster, right, takes a final spin down memory lane with his Station 2 crew on the 1926 LaFrance fire truck on Friday at Station 1. Foster retired with all 30-and-a-half years working in Kamloops and is looking forward to starting a fishing charter company in his new home Port McNeill on Vancouver Island. Station 2 firefighter Ryan Cail, left, steers the engine with Chris Burnham, Wade Lindoff, Clipper Sheperd and Sheldon Guertin riding atop the vintage truck.

That's Gotta' Hurt

Richard Appiah of Prince George, left, is flipped by Balwinder Sahota of Vancouver in the mens 63-kilogram class at the Interior Savings Centre on Saturday. Appiah won the match.

"hoo do you love?"

As a child, I was used to hearing my father's saying, "If you want to soar with the eagles, you can't hoot with the owls all night". It was his way of letting his teenage sons know his feelings about staying out late. Especially when after graduation we were living in his house.
Thanks for the advise.
I love you dad. -- EAG

Sneeze factory

Kari Lustig loosens the saddle on thoroughbred Monty following a riding lesson from Julia Bostock, Equine Canada level 2 coach at the Fieldstone Equestrian Centre in Barnhartvale.

A pic of my little pecker friend.

Camouflaged among the ground cover this northern flicker pokes his head out from under a rock while feeding on bugs. The woodpecker is common to the Kamloops area and its population is thriving as a result of the mountain pine beetle.

Quack!

On Frozen Pond... (hopefully not golden)

Long track skater Tyler Martin of Kelowna, centre, does his best to catch Ondra Maseja of Sechelt in boys 300 metre long track speed skating on Saturday on frozen Logan Lake. The Logan Lake Loop Speed Skating event is hosted by the Kamloops River City Racers Speed Skating Club, drawing 75 competitors and 200 spectators from the lower mainland and Okanagan area.

On wings of eagles...

Yes, so today is my birthday.
Another day older and a dollar shorter.
Both so true.
I shot this photo yesterday morning enroute to Juniper Ridge neighbourhood in Kamloops.
They don't let you get too close do they.

things you won't see me doing

Former KTW city editor Ryan Kuhn knows a thing or two about ripping up the Sidewinder trail at the Kamloops Bike Ranch. He helped build some of the new trail systems there. Looks like he's moving his wife and daughter to the Kootenays - taking another job with the local Health Authority.
Maybe his departure from Kamloops will leave room on the bike trail for me to start riding again.
We'll see. I suppose I need a bike first.
I already have a spare tire. -- EAG

the daily grind
